4 Benefits of Soy Wax

It might seem hard to believe at first but not all candles are alike. While they can come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, what is most important when differentiating candles is what it is made up of. In other words, what wax is used in making the candle makes a huge difference. Types of wax include paraffin, beeswax, soy, gel, coconut, and palm. Here at Coleman's Crafty Creations, we use soy wax since it is the most affordable yet natural option. So, why should you choose to use soy as opposed to any of the other waxes? Well, let me tell you some reasons why.

1. It is Natural and Environmentally friendly

Soy Wax is made from renewable resources, soybeans, which means they are biodegradable. Fun fact: it is also water soluble. This means that if there is ever a spill, it is much easier to clean up with just some hot water and soap. While paraffin is the most common wax used in candle making for its cheapness, it is a refined gasoline by-product, which can be harmful to your health. So, if you prefer a more environmentally friendly candle, you should go with soy wax,

2. Soy Wax Burns Cleaner than Paraffin Wax

Have you seen the black soot left on the glass of some candles or the wall or ceiling? Well, that won’t happen to soy wax candles or at least not as much. All candles will emit some black soot while burning. There are no toxins, carcinogens or pollutants in soy wax. For those with allergies, soy wax is much less likely to trigger them compared to paraffin wax. They also produce less smoke than candles made from paraffin.

3. It burns longer

Soy wax has a lower melting point which means it burns slower than paraffin wax. Matter of fact, soy wax candles last 30-50% longer than paraffin wax candles. Soy wax candles tend to be slightly more expensive than paraffin candles given the higher quality of products but the fact that it last longer should make the extra cost worth it.

4. Soy Wax Candles have a stronger scent

Given the lower melting point of soy wax, scent is released slower. In other words, the scent of the candle will last longer. However, this also depends on the amount of scent used in the production. More importantly, soy wax does not require any chemical amplifiers to enhance the scent, like paraffin wax.
